Types of Malocclusion

Class I – Both the upper and lower jaws are correctly aligned but the teeth are crooked, crowded, turned, or spaced apart.

Spacing – Also known as Gapped teeth. This is when there are large & uneven spaces between the teeth, and are often caused by missing teeth or smaller than normal teeth with respect to the size of the jaw

Rotation – This is when a tooth moves, shifts or tilts out of its natural position

Crowding – when teeth are too close together and/or overlapping. This develops when teeth are atypically large or if the jaw is smaller than normal. As such, the permanent teeth do not have ample room to move into the correct position or, in some cases, even to erupt at all (or impacted teeth)

Transposition – a tooth grows or appears in one another’s location

Class II – known as Overbite. This occurs when the upper front teeth extends along exceedingly over the lower teeth.

Class III – also called Underbite. the lower front teeth are jutting ahead of the upper front teeth

Overjet – the upper front teeth slant horizontally outwards. Commonly called “buck teeth”

Open bite – when the upper and lower front teeth do not meet, thus producing a space on one or both sides of the mouth.

Crossbite - when any or all of the upper teeth are located significantly inside or outside the lower teeth
